Julia Wilson

Student Film Competition sponsored by Channel 4

Young people involved with the English Secondary Students’ Association (ESSA) have come up with an exciting way to get their voices heard.

Through the creative medium of film, students’ aged 11-19 have the opportunity to express their views on education. They can present their ideas in any way they like from animation to documentary, on their phone or with a video camera. The idea is to get as many young people involved as possible so that a Students’ Manifesto for Change can be written. The Manifesto will be informed by all the entries for the competition and will culminate in a presentation to number 10 and MPs later this year.

The wining films will be shown on Channel 4, a great incentive for any budding film makers. The ideas will reach out beyond policy makers to the public and hopefully inspire other young people to take initiative to vocalise issues that affect them.

You can submit your films under any one of the five categories, which have been left fairly open in order to give the maximum potential for you to express any view or opinion you have, as long as it is constructive, creative and something you feel strongly about.

The categories are:
• Teaching & Learning
• Where we learn
• Enjoying Education
• Student Voice and Leadership
• Future of Education

All the details about ESSA and the project can be found on the Manifesto for Education website,
www.studentvoice.tv

The closing date of the competition is 5pm on the 18th June 2009. The final award ceremony will be held on 10th July 2009 at Channel 4.

Enjoy the making!
