Dir. Baz Luhrmann, Aus, 2008, 160 mins.
Cast. Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, David Wenham.

Storytelling genius and contemporary auteur, Baz Luhrmann’s Australia is an epic tale inspired by Gone With the Wind, African Queen and the westerns of Sergio Leone. In pre-WWII Australia, Lady Sarah Ashley (Kidman),an English aristocrat, inherits a large cattle ranch in the Northern Territories. She is forced to reluctantly accept help from rugged stock-man (Jackman) to drive her cattle across country to Darwin, arriving as the city is being bombed. Fiercely ambitious in scale, this historical epic sees Luhrmann use his amazing visual skills to stunning effect in what will surely become a modern classic.
